Mauritius, having signed the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2007 and ratified it in 2010, is committed to promoting inclusive education for persons with disabilities.<\/span><\/p><p>The Ministry of Education, and Human Resource is responsible for the education of all children in Mauritius, including children with disabilities, and has implemented an Inclusive Education policy since 2006. The Special Education Needs Authority Act, promulgated in 2018, provides the legislative framework for the monitoring and facilitation of special education needs policies through the Special Education Needs Authority (SENA).<\/p><p>To support access to education for children and students with disabilities, the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity provides transport-related assistance and other facilities.<\/p><p>To assist in the education of children with disabilities, the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity (Social Security and National Solidarity Division) provides the following services:<\/p><ul><li><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-3\"><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-5 ms-rteFontSize-3\">Refund of an amount equivalent to bus fares to accompanying parents of children with disabilities attending daycare centres, specialised schools, mainstream schools, SEN integrated units and SEN Resource and Development Centres ;<\/span><\/span><\/li><li>Refund of taxi fares to eligible students with severe disabilities, as well as students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), attending primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, including those enrolled in Integrated Units and SEN Resource and Development Centres;<\/li><li>A Scholarship Scheme administered by the National Council for the Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons to encourage students with disabilities to follow secondary studies as well as promote the concept of self reliance and independent living among them.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Education Education plays a central role in the personal, social, and academic development of individual and is a key driver of social inclusion and future employment opportunities.
